July 2023 News

Happy July, aka hell month. Here comes a quick one.

Writing

Please allow me to reveal the cover art for VIOLENCE & VIGILANCE, book 1 of Turesia Untamed, the story I've been working on for over ten years.

Typography by Shawn T King

Pictured are:

Irdessa the Undying, with her twin javelins "flanged down their length to facilitate the liberation of blood."

Kraus the Carcass, with a battle axe he'll use to brain an orcane in Chapter 1.

Captain Jeret of His Might's Domestic Patrol, riding an orcane.

Magus Kalderys, the Consonant Fist, striding toward justice.

and lastly, Basalt Kale, the failed negator, holding a void sphere and wondering where it leads.

I first reached out to Felix and Shawn, who have collaborated on countless titles, about three or four years ago before the book had even undergone developmental edits. Little did I know dev edits would cost a year, and the pandemic would sling a wrench into everyone's everything.

But here we are, and I am happy. In just over a month the book will be live. If you want a glimpse into my adventure with this story, look for the Topics section on this page and click Turesia, which is the island nation where Violence & Vigilance takes place. It's over 10 years worth of wandering drivel so be sure to bring your cyanide pill.

The long and short of it is: I wrote V&V, rewrote it, trashed it, joined a writing group in 2017 and wrote it again, hired Felix as illustrator, hired Shawn as typographer, hired John Jarrold as dev editor and fixed it up, hired Lee Burton as line editor and line-fixed it up, and now at last, am in the final steps of publishing this thousand-page monstrosity.

Here's V&V's official landing page. I'll be stacking some links and images and excerpts and quotes here as the days go by. Maybe even fan art and feedback. Follow that link and preorder this book. It'll only set you back 5 freedom units. The benefit to me and my household will be beyond measure.

Thank you.

Kayaks

I'd call our first month at Lake Russell a success. We made a pile of dollars and smiles. That's the idea.

I'd call our third June as Lake Hartwell Kayak a success as well. It surpassed last year in numbers. Made money and smiles there too.

If you want more pictures or updates for either of those ventures or even if you don't, follow us online. Doesn't matter if you live nearby. Do it to support ya boy and fam. As Soul Asylum said, "Nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd."

Follow us just because Brandon Duncan made such rad logos.
