March 2026 News

V&V has gotten some very generous love lately. There have been several reviews that just tickled me pink, like this one on Reddit that has the tagline “Brandon Sanderson but rated R.”  Go reddit right now!

My friend and fellow author Andy Peloquin had very nice things to say about it as well. He reached out and suggested I share the book with some of his fantasy-reading friends and so I did. Learned a lot about mailing books in the process.

One of those readers in particular whose IG handle is Butternut_Jawsh told me and I quote, “I’d run through BRICK WALLS for Torvald.”

Did he now? Think he’ll still feel that way after-

Cállate! Spoilers!

It’s encouraging to hear good feedback on a published book, especially while working on the sequel. Speaking of,

Writing

V&V2 is coming along nicely and I am still loving it. That’s a wild thing to say about a story (or any creative endeavor) that’s 10+ years in the making. Word counts are useless in these late stages so I won’t speak on them. But all scenes are accounted for and just need to be finalized and filled out.

I've been working on Tivali's scenes. She has more in the sequel and I'm attempting to make sure the increase is a good thing by showcasing sides of Ausgan we wouldn't otherwise see but without inflating the word count. Her scenes involve one of the two V&V2 cann!balism events (neither of which I anticipated when I started this story) and the processes that lead to the natives of Ausgan rising up against either the monks or the heathens.

I read in one of those wildly flattering V&V reviews that V&V2 is releasing in 2026. Is that true?

I hope so but my confidence is slipping daily. The biggest threat to a 2026 V&V2 release is failing to finish the final draft (and get it to editor) before school lets out. I always hope to maintain productivity while the family is home from school but I never do. Closing the door and acting like they're not here feels rude.

But even if I maintain this pace the summer time will do all it can to halt productivity due to the day job that is

Lake Hartwell Kayak

We've technically had one rental so far this year. It overlapped New Years and was delivered in sub-freezing temperatures. Crazy people, I tell you.

March is the month things pick up for the ‘yak industry. Business will increase from now until maximum capacity in July/August then gradually fade once more until December.

LHK will likely consume most of my focus during summer and in the cracks between kayak promoting, delivering, collecting, and maintaining I will attempt to schedule tunings.

What's tunings, precious?

I mentioned in November that I started tuning pianos and was considering making something it. I did. So now,

David Tunes Pianos

Yes, that's the name of this endeavor. In my experience simple is best where marketing is concerned.

Follow us on FB! No obligation to comment or anything, just join in and enjoy some piano pics.

It’s going really well. I almost said surprisingly well but that’s not true. If you look for local piano tuners in a small town, you'll likely find slim pickings. Therefore marketing does its own work and all I need to do is provide good service, communicate well, and behave positively and professionally online. It’s crazy to me how few small businesses seem to care about those things.

Speaking of professionalism,

We’ve done four podcasts so far this year and you can find them all HERE!

Our video podcast has been collaborating with another one - Spotlight Indie - and it’s been an awesome time all around.

Check out either/both channels to get a taste of what’s popping in independently published author space.

Music

Due to various scheduling and weather calamities Something Once Sacred has not played a show since late last year, and we’re chomping at the tit to play one!

That is not the expression. At all.

What expression? That’s just a thing I do when I’m excited because we have a show March 6th at The Boathouse!

Next Time

I’ll have completed Tivali’s scenes and be working on others, inching ever toward completion.

see you then
